I would like to share with you all some of the historic methods that used to produce legendary results. None of these examples still work and have been patched long ago but, the concepts are still very interesting and can be valuable food for thought to potentially apply in future traffic sources.

First off the list, we are going to explore what was probably the single greatest & easiest method in content locking history. In the 2016-2017 era you could upload any video and instantly command it onto the YouTube trending page for a specific country. I discovered this method myself by accident when ordering a "large amount" of country targeted views from SMMGlobe. I first tried it by targeting my home country of Canada and the video would be on the trending page for almost 24 hours straight, peaking within the top 20 video rank range, sometimes even top 5.
-
From that point on, every single day I uploaded a content locking video with a Canadian theme and would enjoy instant results garnering anywhere from $500 USD to over $1,000 USD per day in earnings on OGAds. My live leads feed was filled with a steady stream of Canadian maple leaves, a truly beautiful sight to behold. There was no real requirements for the quality of the video or niche, but obviously the more appealing the video was, the greater the earnings could be. I only needed to order about 25,000 Canadian views, costing in total less than $40 USD per video.

Turns out this trending phenomena also worked for some other countries just as well, but not for most other countries such as the USA. I managed to get a specific video every single day trending in: Australia, New Zealand, Germany, South Africa, Brazil, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Canada and multiple others.

It was a content locking paradise for months. But as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Eventually these questionable videos got the attention of YouTubers. They would upload videos calling into question why these videos are on the trending page when they appear not to genuinely belong there. Before long, YouTube had managed to patch this phenomena and the party was officially over.

Before 2019, if you had procession of a verified Instagram account you had virtually no limits to how many comments you could make, significantly higher limits on the maximum number of profiles you can follow and posts you can like. If you got temporarily limited, no problem! The limits would be lifted just a few days later with little to no chance of getting the account banned. This method was more work than the golden YouTube trending method however, it had a much greater earnings potential simply because of it's scalability.

The single most potent strategy these special parameters offered was the following: Get a profile scraping bot that makes a lists of all the people that follow big names in a specific niche, lets say Kylie Jenner and the makeup industry. Upon having this list of profiles scraped into a list, make a content locking post for a beauty product giveaway. Then finally have an automation tool or bot log into your verified account and make 40,000+ comments onto your own post. Each comment will tag or mention up to 20 profiles from the list. If you do the math, that's up to 800,000 people mentioned and potentially sent a notification about your post. As you can imagine the earnings were ludicrously good, you could do this multiple times per week. A handful of OG members managed to enjoy this method. I forgot when exactly it stopped working, but it is definitely not so easy anymore using Instagram for content locking.

An aggressive but simple method peaking in 2017 (for profitability) that provided many members with decent earnings. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about this method that set it apart was the fact that literally anyone in the world could do it with identical results. A METHOD THAT DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE! It has evolved and devolved multiple times over the lifespan of YouTube history with different people putting the comment system to work in their own unique ways. Obviously a comment can be orchestrated / presented to viewers through a variety of narratives to generate traffic, too many to cover in fact so I will just stick to the basic few concepts that yielded the most traffic for content locking.
-
Alright so the most effective comment method was to directly promote your landing page website using a short link URL directly in the comment (twitter short link, TinyUrl etc), while using a profile picture impersonating somebody relevant to the niche topic. Copy your comment URL and blast it with upvotes and comment replies that endorse the link. Hordes of members earned hundreds of dollars per day sometimes even surpassing the $1,000 per day milestone. It was profitable to do this method for any major language, sometimes non English languages were best due to having less competition.
-
YouTube comments can still be used to this day as a traffic source but it is much more involving, if you manage to bypass shadow banning issues you can simulate an entire conversation by having different profiles reply to your original comment and develop the conversation in such an appealing way that eventually a comment further down the reply chain will say the WEB SITE DOT COM NAME or email or WhatsApp number to reach out to find the desired content. You can still today see many examples of these fake comment conversations especially on financial related videos. Overall, when it comes to content locking, this traffic method is hard to justify and way past it's hay day.
